Your Secret Weapon to Get Ahead In Life

ree

Birds of the same feathers flock together. Similarly, birds that flock together develop the same feathers.  In essence, your future is shaped by the company you keep. Show me your friends, and I'll show you your future. One of the most powerful forces in the universe is the force of normalization, which, within a community of friends, tends to drive everyone towards the average. This is why close friends have similar jobs, drive similar cars, shop at similar stores, have similar houses, have similar perspectives, and end up with similar destinies. You will be the average of your community. Therefore, is your community constraining you, challenging you, or catapulting you to a higher level? Friendship has always been—and will forever remain—a matter of choice. Your secret weapon is the power of choice to identify and select the right community to get ahead in life. If you are the smartest in the room, you are in the wrong room. You can use the force of normalization to achieve a higher average through the right association. Therefore, select friends thoughtfully. Opt for a community that aligns with your goals. Choose individuals who are more experienced in areas important to you. Learn to walk like them, talk like them, and act like them. Learn from their mistakes and follow their example carefully. A community of friends should not be limited to those physically nearby. A community can include mentors, sponsors, coaches, consultants, podcasts, blogs, and biographical stories of individuals who have achieved great success. When you flock with them, you develop the same feathers.
